Maturity Classifications

Each well also receives a maturity classification describing where it is in its production life. Early-stage wells are producing at or near their peak rates. Mid-life wells are in the core of their decline — still producing meaningfully, but trending down. Late-stage wells are in the tail of production, generating lower volumes at a slow, steady rate.

Understanding the maturity of your wells helps you see the shape of your future cash flows. A portfolio of early-stage wells looks very different economically than a portfolio of mature producers, even if their current monthly revenue is similar.
